What is a Session?

A session in PatientNotes represents a single patient encounter. Each session captures the audio from your visit, transcribes it in real-time, and can generate one or more clinical notes based on your chosen templates.

Session Limits & Retention

Understanding session limits helps you make the most of PatientNotes:

  • Recording Length: No hard limit on individual recordings. We recommend keeping sessions under 2 hours for optimal processing.
  • Monthly Sessions: Your plan determines how many sessions you can record per month. Check your plan details in Settings.
  • Session Retention: Sessions are retained according to your plan. You can export notes at any time for your records.
  • Storage: Audio recordings are processed and then securely deleted. Only transcripts and notes are retained.
HIPAA Compliance
PatientNotes is designed with HIPAA compliance in mind. Audio is processed securely and deleted after transcription. See our Security page for details.

Quick Tips

Name your sessions with patient initials or identifiers to find them easily later.

Use the pause button during interruptions instead of stopping the session.

Review the transcript before generating notes to catch any major errors.
